PhD Program
PhD students at CES are affiliated with the Panthéon-Sorbonne Doctoral School of Economics (ED 465) and are enrolled at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.
Each doctoral student is supervised by a permanent CES faculty member or researcher at CES, who serves as the principal supervisor. Doctoral students are also required to complete a range of complementary training activities (courses, seminars, research stays abroad, etc.) as defined by the Doctoral School.
Only applicants with secured funding are eligible to enroll in the PhD program at CES.
Applying for a PhD
1. Finding a Supervisor
The first step in applying for a PhD is to identify a CES faculty member or permanent researcher who agrees to supervise the candidate's dissertation based on the proposed research project. Applicants are responsible for contacting potential supervisors directly.
Once a faculty member or researcher has agreed to supervise the dissertation, they may initiate the CES PhD application procedure.
2. Applying to the CES PhD Program
There are two possible application routes:
1: The applicant is awarded a doctoral contract from Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, or a doctoral contract funded through an existing agreement between CES's supervisory institutions as part of a research project, and the dissertation supervisor (or the primary co-supervisor in the case of joint supervision) is a CES faculty member or researcher. In this case, the applicant is automatically authorized to enroll in the CES PhD program.
2: For CIFRE doctoral contracts or other forms of external funding, the dissertation supervisor must follow the procedure described on the CES intranet (EPI) and contact the CES Admissions Committee at phdprogram-ces@univ-paris1.fr.
Administrative Enrollment
Applicants who have been authorized to enroll in the CES PhD program may then complete their administrative enrollment by following the procedure described here.
