Economy & Society
The “Economy and Society” group brings together specialists in labor economics, social protection, health economics, social and solidarity economy, as well as epistemology and the history of contemporary economic thought. It encompasses research that considers economics as a branch of the social sciences, both as a scientific approach (theoretical and empirical) and as an object of study (within an epistemological and historical perspective on economic thought).
Particular attention is paid to the institutional framework—spatially and historically contextualized—of economic actions and processes. The temporal dimension (dynamics, transformations) and international comparison therefore play a central role in the analysis of the phenomena studied. We adopt an interdisciplinary perspective, drawing on law, history, political science, and sociology, and mobilize diverse economic approaches to better understand real-world issues.
The program is linked to two master’s degrees offered at Université Paris 1 (“Economic and Social Administration” and “Economic and Social Sciences”). These degrees include research-oriented tracks supervised by our team—the second-year master’s “Economic and Social Studies and Research” (CEES), and the second-year master’s “Economics and the Humanities: Epistemology, Methods, Theories” (ESH). Members of the group are also heavily involved in several professional tracks—notably the second-year master’s “Foresight and Management of Employment and Skills” (AGEC); the second-year master’s “Management in Mutual Insurance, Social Protection, and Provident Funds” (CAMAP); the second-year master’s “Management of Social-Sector Organizations” (COSS); and the second-year master’s “Teacher Training in Economic and Social Sciences” (FSES).
