Governance

The Centre d'Economie de la Sorbonne (CES) is a joint research unit (UMR 8174) established in 2006, bringing together three major institutions: the University  Paris 1 Pantheon Sorbonne, the CNRS and the IRD.

Since January 1, 2024, CES has been directed by Stéphane Zuber. The previous directors of CES were Cuong Le Van (2006–2009), Jean-Marc Tallon (2010–2013), Lionel Fontagné (2014–2018), and Agnieszka Rusinowska (2019–2023).

The governance of the Centre d'Economie de la Sorbonne is based on two main bodies, the Executive Committee and the Laboratory Council.

Executive Committee

The Director of CES is supported by an Executive Committee, which he or she chairs, composed of:

  • Deputy Directors
  • Up to two members of the unit with specific responsibilities
  • The Administrative Officer
  • The Head of the Documentation Center

The Executive Committee meets as needed, and at least once a month. It advises on any matter submitted by the Director, in particular regarding:

  • The scientific orientation of the unit
  • The organization and functioning of the unit, in terms of human and financial resources
  • Relations with the unit’s primary and secondary supervisory bodies and external partners
  • Any other matters relating to the unit (international relations, knowledge transfer, communication, etc.)

Laboratory Council

The Laboratory Council consists of 15 members: the Director ex officio, 8 elected members, and 6 appointed members. The term of office for Council members is the same as that of the unit. Heads of research groups participate in the Council with an advisory vote if they are not elected members.

The Laboratory Council has a consultative role. It is consulted on:

  • The status, program, and coordination of research, as well as the composition of research groups
  • The budgetary resources requested by the unit and the allocation of those granted
  • The adoption and amendment of the unit’s internal regulations
  • The appointment of the Director and Deputy Directors
  • The unit’s research contract policy
  • Human resources management
  • Research training policy
  • Any measures relating to the organization and operation of the unit that may affect the working conditions of personnel
