PhD Program

Pursuing a PhD at CES

PhD students at CES are affiliated with the Panthéon-Sorbonne Doctoral School of Economics (ED 465) and are enrolled at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.

Each doctoral student is supervised by a permanent CES faculty member who serves as dissertation advisor, and they follow a set of doctoral training courses defined by the doctoral school.

Admission to the doctoral program is overseen by the CES Thesis Admissions Committee, which includes the director of the doctoral school, professors accredited for doctoral supervision, and members of the CES management team.

Bonne année 2025

Enrollment in the CES doctoral program is automatic once the following two conditions are met:

  1. Secured Funding – The dissertation project must have obtained funding, either through a doctoral contract awarded by the University of Paris 1 or within a partnership approved by CES’s supervising institutions.
  2. Successful Selection – The doctoral contract is awarded through a competitive selection process organized by ED 465 (see the ED 465 website)

The dissertation advisor (or the primary co-advisor in the case of joint supervision) must be a permanent CES researcher.

Only candidates who have secured funding are admitted to enroll at CES. CES also accepts CIFRE theses as well as other approved funding arrangements
